A PODCAST IS AN AUDIO PROGRAM

A lot like a radio show, a podcast is created and shared with an audience. The biggest difference? A podcast is shared through the internet and delivered automatically to a computer or personal device.

Most podcasts are a series of free episodes focused on a topic or theme. And, because podcasts are available on-demand, listeners can subscribe to podcasts and listen when and where they want.

WHY A PODCAST?

  • The back-and-forth digital communication that is spreading like wildfire across our dioceses is our chance to bring the Gospel to millions of Catholics…We are in a paradigm shift, as profound as when the printing press made literacy a necessity or when television made the planet feel smaller…but, just as the Church learned how to use the book and film to proclaim the Good News to the ends of the earth, so today we must teach ourselves to learn these new tools to help people find the faith in their ordinary days and in their times of need.

THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF PODCASTS A LISTENER SUBSCRIBES TO

PERCENT OF PODCASTS ARE LISTENED TO ON A MOBILE DEVICE

The value that podcasts represent over a strictly video-based experience is found in the ability to listen to a podcast while doing a number of other things. Video requires complete engagement while audio and podcasts can be enjoyed while driving to work, mowing the lawn, or waiting for the bus.

PERCENT OF LISTENERS HEAR ALL (OR MOST) OF A PODCAST

According to Edison Research and their 2017 Infinite Dial report – the longest-running survey of digital media consumer behavior in America – 85% of listeners hear an entire podcast or most of it.
